SKILLS BANK

Skills Bank is an initiative of Volunteering Queensland aimed at connecting skilled volunteers, willing to give their time and expertise, to community organisations that are in need of those skills. This is a free service to potential volunteers and to community organisations.

Skilled volunteers open up new possibilities for community organisations to expand their competencies, strengthen their core functions, and improve the quality of their services.

Volunteer creates online skill profile

Skills Bank facilitates the creation of a pool of skilled volunteers who can advertise the competencies that they wish to contribute, briefly list their experience and qualifications, and specify their availability. This information is made available to community organisations that are registered on Volunteering Queensland’s website.

Organistation searches and makes contact

Organisations search for volunteers who have the expertise they require and, if a suitable candidate is identified, offer that person an interview for one of the volunteer opportunities they have listed. The candidate will receive a system generated email asking them to log on to the Volunteering Queensland website and view the details of the offer.

Volunteer responds to offer

The Skills Bank system enables the volunteer to indicate whether they wish to express interest or decline the offer. In either case, the organisation is advised by email. If expressing interest, the email lists the volunteer’s name and contact details and asks that the organisation contact the volunteer as soon as possible to arrange an interview.

Confidentiality

The name and contact details of volunteers who place their skills profile in Skills Bank will remain confidential in all circumstances other than if and when expressing interest in an offer.
