Perry Hembury is employed by Volunteering Queensland (VQ) as an educator specializing in governance within the nonprofit sector. His work involves the design and facilitation of governance training across Queensland. He has over 30 years experience working in the areas of financial management, risk management and human resource management and development in both the commercial and nonprofit sectors.
For five years (until 2001) Perry was employed as the national manager of the Voluntary Work Initiative project working in partnership with Volunteering Australia, Centrelink and the Commonwealth government. This work included representation on a Joint Management Committee based in Canberra. He also currently works (part-time) for the Department of Employment and Training teaching Community Welfare Service diploma students, within the TAFE system, the ‘art’ of financial and administrative management, in addition to his role within VQ.
Prior to moving into the Education/Training team Perry held the Finance and Executive Services Manager’s position at VQ. He holds qualifications in Internal Quality Auditing (as issued by the Queensland government), a Certificate IV in Workplace Training, and tertiary qualifications, including: an Associate Diploma of Human Resource Development and a Bachelor degree in Adult and Vocational Teaching. He has delivered financial management and risk management training at university and TAFE levels and to non-profit organisations and workers (both paid staff and volunteers) in the community sector throughout Queensland during the last five years.
Perry is passionate about assisting senior staff and board members to develop
their capacity to exercise good governance within their organisations. He believes
that effective governance not only serves to satisfy legal compliance and addresses
the increasing complexity in areas of financial accountability and risk management
that non-profit organisations are currently faced with but also has the potential
to maximise growth and prosperity within the organisation in a very positive
way.
