Connecting reading volunteers with local schools.

Are you a good communicator? Do you enjoy interacting with young people?

If you are passionate about helping children and want to engage with your local school, we can connect you with the Ready Readers program.

Queensland Ready Readers enlists community volunteers to support existing school reading programs. Volunteers will receive training so they can work confidently with early readers.

This exciting initiative is made possible through a collaborative partnership with the Queensland Department of Education and Training.

Your commitment.

To become a Ready Reader you will be required to undergo training in the support process you will use with young readers. The training will be delivered by experienced staff from the Department of Education and Training, and you will be guided and supported through your learning. The training program will be a total of 8 hours, and there will be a number of options to allow you to complete the training.

Initial information sessions in each Region will also be conducted, and these sessions will give you an introduction to the program. Once you have registered your interest you will receive further information about the sessions.

Standard checks.

To ensure the safety of all school students, all potential volunteers for Ready Readers will have to undergo a Working with Children check and receive a blue card before they commence in any school. This process will be fully explained during training, and the process will be initiated during this time.
