I have worked for four years in my country before I came to Australia. When I decided to go abroad for studying, at the same time, I made up my mind to join a volunteering group in Brisbane. The reasons why I wanted to become involved were to have work experience in a foreign company and I knew that it was something I had to get involved in to be connected to the society.
Fortunately, I applied at Volunteering Qld and I got an internship position as a marketing and communications assistant. It was a great experience to do things I had never done before. Volunteering Qld is an organisation which connects those people who want to be volunteers to the organisations which need volunteers to do community work. Due to the organisation's nature I had lots of opportunities to be connected to charitable activities and events.
During these three weeks, I had lots of valuable experiences. First, I got the chance to film Graham Quirk, Lord Mayor of Brisbane who was presenting at an event to raise awareness and support people who have Down Syndrome. I felt like my heart had been touched by people who put lots of effort and contribute to amazing causes. I learned the skills for editing videos and I believe my Englsih also improved by listening to the interviews.
For me, it was really awesome to develop my marketing skills and open my mind to the efforts of volunteers. It reminded me what I could do and what I should do for those in need. I believe that if everyone could be full of compassion and love, it is possible to make the world better.
