UQ Volunteer Expo 2012

The University of Queensland (UQ) is inviting charity and non-profit organisations to join its Annual Volunteer Expo on Wednesday 8 August 2012 at the St Lucia Campus from 10am - 2pm.

The Volunteer Expo last year successfully attracted over 2,100 students and it was a great opportunity for volunteer organisations to recruit university students to assist their causes with help for events and specialists’ skills for short or long term projects.

In order to maximise the capacity for both organisations and students to obtain successful placements, UQ will offer attending organisations a half-day seminar on Wednesday 4 July from 9:30am - 1:30pm on engaging the 18-25 age bracket in volunteering placements, in partnership with Volunteering Qld. Additionally, there will be the opportunity to discuss your specific volunteer requirements over lunch at the seminar and any queries you have in promoting your positions e.g. have you always wanted to develop a marketing plan but haven't had the capacity to do so in your current team. You could discuss in this environment how best to engage a student to develop this for your organisation, so make sure you bring your wish list.

With the Volunteer Expo UQ aims to provide organisations with more than just a ‘one-off’ event. UQ wants to support organisations to engage their students in placements that provide them with opportunities to:

  • Volunteer in short and long term placements
  • Apply their degree-related skills
  • Develop themselves on a personal level
  • Make a difference to their local community
  • Become life-long volunteers

The event is free of charge, however, attending organisations must accept the terms and conditions below:

  • Charity or non-profit status
  • Capacity to upload their voluntary positions to UQ CareerHub (careerhub.uq.edu.au)
  • Generic volunteer positions and/or degree-related positions available
  • Positions available to both domestic and international students

To complete your online registration form visit careerhub.uq.edu.au. If you haven’t already registered with UQ CareerHub, please sign up as an Employer at careerhub.uq.edu.au/Employers/. Once you have agreed to the terms and conditions, and completed the form, your attendance has been confirmed. UQ will follow up with an email regarding the training on 4 July with agenda details, etc.
