Help for your Governance journey no matter your level of experience
My Governance Journey has been designed to help you enjoy the experience of volunteering in a governance role in an organisation that means something to you. It provides starting-level information about questions you’re likely to have regarding your roles on small volunteer, not-for-profit organisations.
It is not designed to be everything you need to know, but it will get you started.
Many volunteers serve many different organisations over their volunteering career, taking the skills they learn from one experience forward to the next. My Governance Journey provides help across this volunteering lifecycle. There’s something here for you regardless of your experience level – whether you’re still considering joining, are just getting started, if you’re experienced and are now stepping up to take on more leadership roles, or if you’re preparing to handover and invite new people to join your organisation’s governance.
It has been designed so that you can go at your own pace and dip in and out of topics as you are ready. It enables you to build your knowledge as you become more familiar with governance roles and has links to stacks of other resources that share more detailed information for you.

My Governance Journey is here to provide you with some helpful pointers and links to authoritative information produced by others. We hope it’s really useful to you and helps you cut through the clutter to find resources that are genuinely useful. But nothing we present here changes your responsibilities to act lawfully, professionally and diligently as a Committee or Board member, to act in the best interest of your organisation and for you to learn about the laws and duties you take on in governance roles. It is not intended to provide detailed or comprehensive training for governance but is to be used to link you to relevant information as needed.
