SAAVI Student of the Term 1, 2016 - Zach

Forest Lake State High School student Zach is studying a CHC24015 Certificate II in Active volunteering through our Students As Active Volunteers Initiative (SAAVI).

This term Zach has helped out at many local community events, including:

  • Crimestoppers Centenary;
  • Bunnings BBQ at Oxley; and,
  • Brisbane City Council's Movies in the Park fundraiser

Zach also volunteers in food preparation at the Forest Lake State School Tuckshop. He is developing his confidence through great feedback from tuckshop staff and the feeling that he is making a worthwhile contribution.

Zach just successfully gained a traineeship position with 99 Bikes. He believes his volunteering experience helped him to perform well in the interview and secure this job.

Leanne Randolph, Teacher, Forest Lake State High School, says "our school has invested in volunteering t-shirts as it is a great way of promoting our volunteering program and our school. Often our students were volunteering in the community and due to the type of activities they were helping with, our formal school uniform was not appropriate. Students are happy to wear the volunteering shirts and it creates a positive image for the school."

Well done Zach! Congratulations on being our SAAVI Student of the Term 1, 2016.
