SAAVI Student of the Term 1, 2016 - Ben

Centenary High School Year 12 student Ben is completing a CHC34015 Certificate III in Active volunteering through our Students As Active Volunteers Initiative (SAAVI).

Ben has clocked up hundreds of volunteering hours helping out a variety of causes at every opportunity including on holidays, weekends, and when he has a spare lesson at school.

Ben began volunteering with Shave for A Cure many years ago, and has put his scalp on the line for the cause through his school twice. He volunteers with the groundsperson at the school and behind the scenes on school productions. He works with a local landscaper and the church doing jobs for community members young and old.

Through volunteering Ben has interacted with more people and completed all reporting requirements, which has helped him to improve his verbal and written communication skills.

Ben balances his many voluntary and school commitments with TAFE and multiple work experiences. He has been working at a Metal Fabrication workshop and is hoping to gain an apprenticeship with them in 2017. Ben has even planned out his ideal retirement job, wishing to work in landcare.

Well done Ben! Congratulations on being our SAAVI Student of the Term 1, 2016.
